
Beyond pacemakers, some rhythm disorders need more advanced devices: an ICD (implantable cardioverter-defibrillator) that can detect and correct a dangerously fast rhythm automatically, or CRT (cardiac resynchronization therapy) for hearts where the two lower chambers beat out of sync. We manage the full lifecycle of these devices — implantation, programming, and regular follow-up checks to confirm the device is working exactly as it should.
Types
ICD (Implantable Cardioverter-Defibrillator)
Continuously monitors heart rhythm and delivers a corrective shock automatically if it detects a life-threatening fast rhythm — for patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest.
CRT-P
A resynchronization device (pacing only, no defibrillator) for heart failure patients whose chambers beat out of sync.
CRT-D
Combines resynchronization pacing with defibrillator protection — for heart failure patients who are also at risk of dangerous fast rhythms.
When it's usually needed
- History of dangerous fast heart rhythms or cardiac arrest risk
- Heart failure with the heart's chambers beating out of sync
- Ongoing check-ups for an existing implanted device
